Reliable temperature monitoring in medical cleaning systems

Explore the project

Complete Graphtec GL860 data logging solution

To ensure safe and effective disinfection of medical instruments, a healthcare equipment manufacturer needed a precise and traceable way to monitor temperature profiles within automated cleaning machines. Althen provided a complete Graphtec GL860 data logging solution that offered high-resolution, multi-channel data acquisition, enabling full compliance with medical hygiene protocols.

Need for traceable, high-resolution monitoring

Our customer operates in the healthcare sector, where automated cleaning and sterilization processes must meet strict industry standards. Traditional temperature monitoring systems lacked the flexibility, portability, and documentation capabilities required to handle multiple machines across various locations. The need for traceable, high-resolution monitoring was essential for internal validation and external certification purposes.

Monitoring clean room testing

Expectations of the application

The customer sought a solution that could:

  • Monitor multiple temperature points simultaneously across various locations within the cleaning chamber.
  • Deliver high-resolution and accurate data over long test cycles.
  • Provide portable deployment for testing multiple machines across different sites.
  • Offer reliable data export features in compliance with regulatory documentation standards (e.g., ISO, FDA).
  • Be user-friendly for engineers during test procedures and audit preparation.

Cleanroom configured data logger set

Althen delivered a ready-to-use Graphtec GL860 Data logger set, fully configured for cleanroom environments. Key components included:

  • Graphtec GL860 data logger: A modular and high-speed DAQ system supporting thermocouples and RTDs.
  • Temperature input modules: Enabled large-scale thermocouple connectivity for comprehensive thermal mapping.
  • Graphtec Software Suite: Provided live monitoring, threshold alarms, and export tools (CSV, PDF) for validation reports.

Temperature sensors (thermocouples) were installed at strategic locations—spray arms, chamber walls, and instrument trays. The logger, positioned externally, recorded and visualized temperature data during cleaning cycles, revealing heating profiles, dwell times, and cooling phases.
