SE2400082 Propeller shaft monitoring brush

Silver graphite monitoring brush for measuring shaft-to-hull potential in propeller shaft earthing systems

Key features

  • Made from 80% silver and 20% graphite
  • Dimensions of 20 × 10 × 32 mm
  • Suitable for the 8047M shaft potential monitoring set

Monitoring brush for propeller shaft systems

The SE2400082 propeller shaft monitoring brush is designed to monitor the electrical potential difference between a vessel’s propeller shaft and its hull. It maintains contact with the silver track of the slipring while the propeller shaft rotates.

The brush consists of 80% silver and 20% graphite. Its high silver content supports good electrical conductivity and low contact resistance. The graphite contributes to smooth contact with the rotating slipring and suitable wear characteristics.

Reliable shaft potential measurement

The SE2400082 is installed in an electrically insulated monitoring brush holder. Unlike the earthing brushes, the monitoring brush does not discharge current directly to the ship’s hull. Instead, it transfers the measured shaft potential to the monitoring unit.

The monitoring unit displays the potential difference between the shaft and the hull on an analogue millivolt meter. This gives the vessel operator a direct indication of whether the propeller shaft earthing system is working correctly.

An increasing potential reading can indicate worn components, contamination, poor brush contact or incorrect installation. Regular monitoring can therefore support preventive maintenance and help identify problems before damage occurs.

Part of the 8047M monitoring set

One SE2400082 monitoring brush is used in the 8047M shaft potential monitoring set. It is installed in the SE2200014 monitoring brush holder and runs over the silver contact track of the propeller shaft slipring.

The monitoring brush can also be ordered separately as a replacement component for maintenance of an existing monitoring system.
