LVDT Sensors
LVDT Sensors (Linear Variable Differential Transformers) have an extremely high repeatability factor (i.e., very small hysteresis). LVDT sensors detect even extremely small position changes and have almost infinitely high resolution. Therefore, LVDT sensors are suitable for measuring high measurement cycles. LVDTs are reliable and cost-effective.
LVDT sensors are available with AC (Alternate Current) or DC (Direct Current):
LVDT sensors with AC (Alternate Current).
AC LVDT sensors contain no electronics, making them an excellent choice for applications where space is limited or for applications in high temperature or humidity environments. Because these LVDTs do not include a signal amplifier, dedicated LVDT signal amplifiers have been developed.
LVDT sensors with DC (Direct Current).
With DC LVDT sensors, the signal conditioning electronics are built-in and therefore do not require calibration or special signal amplifiers. The units can be powered by uni-polar or bi-polar DC voltages and have scaled voltage, current or digital outputs. The digital outputs of DC-powered LVDTs are compatible with most computer-based systems e.g. RS-485 USB.
