Temperature & humidity sensors – Precise environmental monitoring for industry, laboratories and building technology

Temperature and humidity sensors are used for the reliable measurement of environmental conditions such as temperature and relative humidity. They are used in a wide range of industrial, scientific, and building technology applications where stable climate conditions must be monitored or documented.

Althen temperature and humidity sensors are ideally suited for use with modern data acquisition systems and data loggers, for example from Graphtec. They enable precise measurement and long-term monitoring of climatic conditions in:

  • Production facilities
  • Laboratories
  • Storage and cold-storage areas
  • Cleanrooms
  • Building technology
  • Environmental and climate measurements

Thanks to their high accuracy and reliability, these sensors contribute to quality assurance, process optimization, and improved energy efficiency.

How temperature & humidity sensors work

Temperature and humidity sensors usually combine two different sensing elements in one device:

  • A temperature sensor
  • A humidity sensor

Temperature measurement is commonly performed using:

  • Thermistors
  • RTDs (Pt100 / Pt1000)
  • Semiconductor sensors

Humidity is usually measured using capacitive humidity sensors. In these sensors, the electrical capacitance of a sensing element changes depending on the moisture content of the air.

The measured values are processed electronically and output as analog or digital signals. These signals can be transmitted directly to data loggers, control systems, or monitoring systems.

Modern sensors offer high long-term stability as well as fast response times and are suitable for both stationary and mobile applications.

  • Precise combined measurement of temperature and humidity
Reliable climate data for a wide range of applications.
  • Flexible integration into modern data acquisition systems
Ideal for data loggers, monitoring systems, and building automation.
  • Robust and long-term stable sensor technology
Suitable for industrial, scientific, and building technology applications.

How to choose the right temperature & humidity sensor

Selecting the right sensor depends on the specific application as well as the environmental conditions and accuracy requirements.

  • Temperature and humidity measurement range
The sensor should be designed for the expected temperature and humidity ranges.
  • Measurement accuracy and long-term stability
Highly accurate sensors are required for precise applications such as laboratories or cleanrooms.
  • Response time
In dynamic environments, fast adaptation to changing conditions is important.
  • Output signal and interfaces
Depending on the data acquisition system, analog or digital output signals may be required.
  • Mounting type and design
The sensors should be easy to integrate into existing systems or measurement environments.
  • Environmental conditions
Dust, moisture, chemical exposure, or significant temperature fluctuations can influence sensor selection.
  • Compatibility with data loggers and monitoring systems
Easy integration into existing measurement and monitoring systems simplifies commissioning and data analysis.
