Disasters, such as the collapse of the bridge in Genoa, can be prevented by using permanent systems to monitor the condition of the structure. ESSEBI, an Italian company operating in the field of civil engineering services, integrates triaxial MEMS accelerometers "IOLITEDI-3XMEMS-ACC Accelerometer" into permanent bridge monitoring systems.

Which parameters are measured with which devices?

The system also measures extremely low vibration values and is plug&play usable. Low vibration levels must be measured, which requires an accelerometer with extremely low noise so that small changes in the frequency of the vibration can be detected. Due to the permanent monitoring requirements at many measuring points throughout the structure, the cost efficiency of such a solution is extremely important. MEMS technology proves to be mature enough at this point and an ideal choice for the demanding application. The IOLITEDI-3XMEMS-ACC accelerometer builds on the flexibility of the MonoDAQ-E product line (EtherCAT connectivity, 50 m module-to-module distance, single network cable, up to 48 V power supply, DEWESoft software) and incorporates a triaxial, low-noise precision MEMS accelerometer comparable in performance to dedicated seismic accelerometers.

Advanced technical methods such as signal filtering, calculation of velocities and displacements, frequency domain analysis and complex statistics can be implemented in the DEWESoft software with little setup effort and no special programming knowledge.
