Propeller shaft earthing and monitoring
The Althen PSE System provides a low-resistance electrical connection between the propeller shaft and the ship’s hull. A copper slipring with a solid silver track works together with silver graphite brushes to safely conduct electrical current away from bearings, gearboxes and other propulsion components.
An optional monitoring set measures the potential difference between the shaft and the hull, helping operators verify system performance and identify reduced contact or brush wear at an early stage.
