Are miniature differential pressure sensors available?

Yes. A compact example is the Sensorade mp2.40 differential pressure transducer, which is particularly suitable for measuring differential pressure in air and for aerodynamics applications.

Because a differential pressure sensor requires two pressure connections, it is generally larger than a single miniature pressure sensor. For applications with very limited installation space, it is therefore important to determine whether a compact differential pressure sensor provides sufficient space savings or whether a custom solution using miniature pressure sensors is more appropriate.

What temperature ranges are available for miniature pressure sensors?

Althen offers miniature pressure sensors for a range of operating temperatures, from standard industrial applications to high-temperature pressure measurement in demanding environments. The exact temperature capability depends on the sensor model, output signal, materials, seals, cable and installation conditions.

Examples include the XPR46 miniature pressure sensor, which is specified for operating temperatures from -40 °C to +120 °C, and the EPRB-1, which can be used at temperatures up to +150 °C. Ultra-miniature pressure sensors such as the MP-1.55 are available, depending on the version, for temperatures up to +100 °C or +185 °C. For particularly demanding high-temperature applications, unamplified versions of the XPC10 high-temperature pressure transducer are specified for operating temperatures from -40 °C to +220 °C.

When selecting a miniature pressure sensor, the maximum operating temperature is not the only factor to consider. The process medium, pressure range, compensated temperature range, electrical connection and installation conditions should also be taken into account. Althen can help select a miniature or high-temperature pressure sensor that matches the temperature and installation requirements of the application.

What bandwidth and resonance frequency are available for miniature pressure sensors?

The dynamic performance of miniature pressure sensors and pressure transducers depends on the model and may be specified as bandwidth, resonance frequency or usable frequency range. Many miniature pressure sensors are suitable for fast pressure changes and dynamic pressure measurements.

Examples from the Althen portfolio include the EPRB-1, with a bandwidth of 400 Hz (-3 dB) for dynamic pressure measurements in test benches, vehicle applications and hydraulic systems. Depending on the pressure range, the XPC10 has resonance frequencies from 34 kHz to 250 kHz. Its datasheet specifies a usable frequency of approximately 20% of the resonance frequency, while the amplified A1 version has a bandwidth of 600 Hz. The MP-1.55 ultra-miniature pressure sensor is designed for particularly fast measurements and has a resonance frequency of up to 2.7 MHz. The XPR46 is designed for high-bandwidth pressure measurement and high-frequency applications.

The usable frequency in the actual application also depends on the sensor type, pressure range, output signal, amplifier, installation conditions and connected measurement system.
