Portable tilt measurement systems – precise angle measurement for mobile applications

Portable tilt measurement systems enable fast and accurate determination of tilt angles directly on site. They are used wherever machines, structures, or components need to be manually checked, aligned, or calibrated. Typical applications include machine alignment, angle inspection on components, or tilt verification during maintenance and service work.

Electronic tilt measuring devices such as the PRO 360 electronic spirit level sensor or the PRO 3600 tilt meter combine the functionality of a classic spirit level with modern sensor technology. This allows angles to be displayed quickly, precisely, and digitally. The devices are compact, easy to transport, and ideal for mobile measurement tasks in workshops, construction sites, or industrial service environments.

How portable tilt measurement devices work

Portable tilt measurement devices detect the angle of an object relative to Earth’s gravity. Modern devices use highly precise electronic sensors that capture even the smallest tilt changes and process them digitally.

The measured angle is then displayed on a clearly readable screen—often in degrees, percent, or slope. This allows users to determine the inclination of a component immediately and evaluate it directly on site.

Devices such as the PRO 360 and PRO 3600 enable quick zeroing, allowing reference surfaces to be defined easily. This makes it possible to measure relative angles between different components with high accuracy.

How to choose the right portable tilt measurement device

Several factors play an important role when selecting a portable tilt measurement system.

  • Measurement range
Depending on the application, small angle ranges or measurements up to larger inclinations may be required.
  • Accuracy and resolution
For precise alignment or calibration tasks, devices with high resolution are particularly important.
  • Display and usability
A clear display and simple operating functions make everyday use easier.
  • Robustness and design
For use on construction sites or in workshops, robust devices with a durable design are required.
  • Mobility
Lightweight and compact devices enable comfortable use during service and maintenance work.

Frequently asked questions about Mobile tilt measuring systems

Answers to the most important technical questions

How are mobile tilt measuring systems calibrated?

Mobile tilt measuring systems from Althen are usually set up in the application using a reference surface or zero setting. Devices such as the PRO 360 and PRO 3600 allow quick zeroing, so that a defined reference surface can be used as the reference. This also enables precise measurement of relative angles between components.

For reliable measurement results, the device should be placed on a stable, clean, and level surface. The zero point is then set, or the measurement is checked against a known reference. The standardized procedure is documented in the manual. Initial calibration is included in the price. For high accuracy requirements, regular use, or quality-relevant measurement tasks, professional calibration or verification at defined intervals is recommended. Althen offers corresponding calibration and service options.

What signals are output by mobile tilt measuring systems?

Althens' mobile tilt measuring systems output the measured angle directly as a digital display value on the integrated display. The value is shown in degrees and enables quick evaluation of the inclination directly on site.

Depending on the model, an additional digital data output is possible. The PRO 3600 features an RS-232C output and can transmit measurement values to computers, data loggers, or printers. This makes the device suitable for documentation, quality control, and automated measurement processes. The PRO 360, on the other hand, is mainly designed for direct mobile measurement with an LCD display.

Does the display of mobile tilt measuring systems rotate when the device is turned?

Yes, mobile tilt measuring systems are designed for good readability in different measurement positions. The devices display the angle digitally on the integrated display and can be used across the full 360° measuring range.

Depending on the model, the display can automatically switch when the device is rotated so that the measured value remains readable. This applies to the PRO 360. Functions such as hold or zero setting also support easy operation on site, for example when the display is not directly visible during measurement.

Which display and operating functions are available depends on the specific mobile tilt measuring system. Althen supports you in selecting the right device for your measurement task.
