Vibration Transmitters in 4–20 mA 2-Wire Technology – Simple and Reliable Vibration Monitoring
Vibration transmitters with 4–20 mA 2-wire technology are compact sensor solutions for continuous monitoring of vibrations in machines and systems. They combine a vibration sensor and signal conditioning in a single device and provide a standardized 4–20 mA output signal that can be directly integrated into control and monitoring systems.
Thanks to 2-wire technology, both power supply and signal transmission are carried over the same cable, making installation particularly simple and cost-efficient. These sensors are ideal for industrial applications where a robust and low-maintenance solution for condition monitoring is required.
Vibration transmitters are widely used in condition monitoring systems and help detect wear or malfunctions at an early stage, preventing unplanned downtime.

How Vibration Transmitters with 4–20 mA 2-Wire Technology Work
Vibration transmitters detect mechanical vibrations using integrated sensing elements—commonly based on piezoelectric or MEMS technology. The measured vibrations are processed directly within the sensor and converted into an analog current signal (4–20 mA).
Signal transmission takes place via a 2-wire connection, where:
- The device is powered through the current loop
- The measurement signal is transmitted simultaneously
The output current is proportional to the measured vibration parameter (e.g., vibration velocity or acceleration). This allows the data to be easily integrated into PLC, DCS, or other industrial control systems.
This simple and standardized signal transmission makes vibration transmitters highly reliable and resistant to interference—even over long distances.

How to Choose the Right Vibration Transmitter
Selecting a suitable vibration transmitter depends on the requirements of the specific application as well as the existing system environment.
- Measured variable (e.g., acceleration or velocity)
Depending on the application, it must be decided whether acceleration or vibration velocity is the relevant parameter. For many industrial applications, vibration velocity is commonly used. - Measurement range and scaling of the 4–20 mA signal
The measurement range should be selected to optimally cover typical operating conditions without losing resolution. - Frequency range
The sensor must be capable of capturing the relevant frequencies of the application to provide meaningful measurement data. - Output signal and integration
The 4–20 mA signal must be compatible with the existing control or monitoring system. Signal scaling within the system should also be considered. - Mounting and design
The mounting method (e.g., thread, screw) affects measurement quality and should be adapted to the application. - Environmental conditions
Temperature, humidity, dust, or chemical influences can affect sensor performance and must be taken into account. - Approvals and standards
In certain industries, additional requirements such as ATEX or other certifications may be relevant.
